| About Cherie Lassiter |
When I was young I played the piano, violin and then guitar. The guitar gave me my own expression through songs I would write and sing. This became a passion and a purpose. " I got exposed early on to the music industry. By age 16 I had an agent, was recording demo's and had big dreams.
But life has this way of taking you down roads you didn't expect to go where you learn and grow and have experience. Which makes for some great songs! So, where I am now in life is reflected richly from this fabric of experience that i am eternally grateful for.
There is a healing and a freeing that comes with composing music and lyrics that compels me to keep playing. Sharing this expression with others is part of that experience.
In sharing this with others, I have played solo and with various bands of my own and others. It is a privalege to share the creative spirit with others. Though "artistic differences" and personal issues get in the way with bands and groups of people that work together, it is always a joy to make the music. I am sure there are others out there that can relate.
In my debut CD, Heart Shadows back in the late 90's, I worked with Robert Starling who produced and engineered the record with me. His patience and wellspring of talent helped create beautiful pieces that are haunting and uplifting at the same time.
A few years later, I added a few tracks to it with my brother, Rick Lassiter. His bowed bass and guitar work added power and dimension to my songs. Rick has released his own Cd's and worked with countless musicians from Lisa Loeb,Tift Merritt and recorded with the Squirrel Nut Zippers. Check out his "Songs for the Unconsoled" available on Cdbaby.
Heart Shadows has done well, selling locally as well as overseas. Check out some tracks on the site!
My celtic voice and heritage have found me perfoming alot in Renaissance Faires and folk venues. Though my current material and shows are more contemporary and progressive, there is still an underlying Celtic influence that seems to permeate my music.
My network of musicians that I play with now come from various musical backgrounds from Rock to Country and from Jazz to Blues. This frees me up to sing and evolve as a singer and a writer.
I am currently in rotation with several internet radio stations. I made it to number 16 on the folk charts with American Idol Underground as well as being chosen as Spotlight Artist with PaganRadio.net.
In August of 2006, I was featured on Sirius Satellite radio with Carolyn Craft which was heard coast to coast. It was an hour long interview about my evolvement as a singer/songwriter as well as my music from HeartShadows being played. The show was also syndicated internationally through Lime Radio. Very cool!
In November of 2006, I was selected to Showcase at the MidAtlantic Music conference in Charlotte, NC.,where I performed for music industry people and set some things in motion.
Through songwriting and performing live I continue to grow as an artist. I also continue to search for the right producer for my next recording project.
