Care Bears on Fire are Sophie (guitar/vocals), Izzy (drums), and Lulu (bass). Friends since kindergarten, Sophie and Izzy started playing together with some friends in the 4th grade, covering tunes by bands like The Ramones and The Clash. In 5th grade, they started writing their own songs, getting gigs and calling themselves Care Bears on Fire. In October of 2007, Care Bears on Fire, who've been described as "the love children of Joan Jett and Richard Hell (Metromix)," and "the wiseass kid siblings of Bad Brains (The Miami New Times)" released their first full-length album, I Stole Your Animal. Since that time CBOF has played at SXSW, CMJ, NAMM, has appeared on the Cartoon Network, NPR, Fearless TV and has been featured on the front page of USA Today. The San Francisco Chronicle describes their early American punk sound as "CBGB circa 1975." It is punk meets garage straight out of a Brooklyn basement. And, as Converse says, "…Care Bears on Fire create blistering, rebellious anthems that would make the forefathers of punk proud."
Press:
"One of the highlights of the day [at the Underage Festival] were Care Bears on Fire , three helplessly cutesy girls (all under 15) belting out crowd-pleasing anthems such as 'Everybody Else'." - Alexandra Cracknell - The Observer
"Still not even in their teens, Brooklyn trio, Care Bears on Fire are cooking up some serious garage punk sounds that will make bands twice their age turn green with envy." - Artrocker Magazine
“This trio of 12-year olds have made it farther than most bands ever will. They have produced a solid debut and are on a pathway to stardom.” - hockeyguitar99 - Absolutepunk.net
"They're not the first kid rock band…and they won't be the last but they may be the most compelling. Singer Sophie is 12 going on 13... At the same time, she plays a meaner guitar solo than many of her adult contemporaries, while Izzy hits her drums with a preternatural flamboyance." - Paul MacInnes - Guardian.co.uk
"Three Brooklyn-based seventh graders who play alarmingly catchy pop punk....
Unlike most of the kid-fronted bands out there, Care Bears on Fire are more than a novelty act. They play a kind of witty garage rock that should make most toiling bar bands seriously envious." - Lizzy Goodman - Blender.com
"As a live act, Care Bears On Fire are hipper than imaginable, possessing the intangible punk rock attitude lacked by most modern acts. Perhaps it is because their act is not propelled by ego or affectation, just an unadulterated commitment to playing stellar music — sharp, infectious punk riffs that unapologetically pulse through their audience." - kristyn Pomranz - Venuszine.com
"If you liked their EP or just want to hear some rock by kids...you'll love "I Stole Your Animal"." - Charlie Heller - New York Post.
"...fast and furious brand of power-punk garage pop is as catchy as it comes." - Carol Candeloro - Dish Music Guide - Dishmag.com
"...the pumping defiant kid-pride anthem "Everybody Else" shows there's hope in these days of Hannah Montana and High School Musical homogeneneity." - Randy Harward - Harp Magazine
"They're key players in the burgeoning New York kid-core scene..." - Jessica Ford -
Spin Magazine
"I'm officially obsessed with Care Bears on Fire." - Justine Goodman - nycblog.citysearch.com/imbible
"Pint-size punkers Care Bears On Fire provided a glimpse of the 12-year-old Brooklyn scene, and, surprisingly, offered one of the more impressive shows of the night. Guitarist/singer Sophie proved to be a Joan Jett shredder, belting out uninhibited lyrics about MySpace and zoo animals..." - Gavin Paul Giovagnoli - Spin.com
"...the real gem is the sassarrific "Met You on MySpace," in which lead singer Sophie disses a would-be cyber Humbert with what might be my favorite lyrics of 2007."
- Steve Almond - Miami New Times
"...a confidence and ease on stage that most performers achieve only after countless gigs..." - Caroline Kinneberg - Nylon Magazine
"Evocative of early Siouxsie and the Banshees and a standout in the kid-core scene..."
- Lisa Robinson - Hot Tracks - Vanity Fair
"I just have to bow down and worship at the feet of these mini rock gods!" - poptartssucktoasted.blogspot.com
"...it's a must-have for modern rock fans." - Anna Creech - BlogCritics Magazine
"What’s most striking, though, is how completely and fluidly they understand the form of the music they play." - Bret Gladstone - Sound of the City - Village Voice.com
"...an honest-to-goodness chart-topper."- Maggie Serota - The Brooklyn Paper
"It’s also catchy as hell." "... just about every song on the album is an upbeat funfest." Colin Kutch - Zero Magazine
"...inside each of the 12-year-olds beats the heart of a punk veteran." - Bill Picture - San Francisco Chronicle
"...a blistering rock trio..." - Kirk Miller - Metromix
