Influences
Influences include Brian Wilson, The Boswell Sisters, The Ink Spots, The Mills Brothers, Randy Newman, John Wilson, Lozlo Lovas, Duke Ellington & Billy Strayhorn, Nino Rota, Chuck Berry, Kurt Weill, Cesaria Evora, The Gentlemen's Club, Harry Nilsson, Thelonious Monk, Harry Belafonte, Hank Williams, Sr., Paolo Conte, Fats Waller, Fats Domino, The Mamas & the Papas, Nina Simone, T-Buck Burns, The Beatles, and the RHS Concert Choir.
The Bob Monk Singers are a four-part vocal harmony group. We sing mostly originals, but when we perform live we include vocal-harmony arrangements of a wide variety of songs. Our first CD, "Love in Four Parts," was released in October 2006.
Bob Monk writes the songs, sings, and plays acoustic guitar and other instruments. The Lovely Keli-Mari has been singing since before she could talk, but only in the past couple of years has started performing and recording. Toby sings bass vocals and plays a little percussion and guitar. Sergio, who sings and plays bass, is the mastermind behind Sergio in Acapulco, an eclecto-lounge project (which Bob & Keli-Mari also participate in).
The old, poorly recorded but incredibly honest version of "That's the Way It Goes" got 1583 listens in about nine months. I have now uploaded a much-improved version, recorded live at Opening Bell Coffee last December.
This version of the song is also included on "The Slap-Dash CD April 28, 2007", my new 12-song 100% homemade CD. I slapped it together and dashed out the door with a handful to play at the Cedar Hill Arts Festival a few weeks ago. I will continue to produce them for as long as they sell, which they are doing (thank goodness!).

May 17 will be a totally open mic, meaning we don't know who will be
showing up, signing up, and playing. Maybe you! Try to sign up
early, around 7:00, to make sure you have a spot. As always, length
of set depends on number of sign-ups with the earliest being possibly
the longest.
All the best, Jenni and Tom

Congrats on the the TMA nomination! And, thanks for the add. I had fun on 2/3. Talent oozes from you and Tony was great, too. It makes me want to partake of the ooze (did that sound right? Ick). Anyway, couldn't help myself when I jumped up to the mic. I'll try to restrain myself in the future (ha). Won't see you on the 17th. But, I'll be looking for future appearance dates.

Nice guitar work, nice harmonies, nice vocalizing, and nice tunes... but enough about the Ink Spots... :^) Just kidding, you folks sound great. Have you discovered the Mills page? /fourboysandaguitar - come check it out. And my personal page- /singingdesigner. But enough gross self-promotion. Thank you again for adding the Inks and again, beautiful stuff.
Bob Monk Singers rock! And groove! We love the new CD!
