Blue Plate Special entertaining Blues and Rock audiences with strong "ORIGINAL" Blues songs and renditions of classic material from Chicago Blues Artists, since 1969.
R.P. Michaels, Harry Binford, and Robert Pasenko, have stayed focused and true to the Blues. They survived the music industry abandoning Chicago in the early 70's, (the Disco takeover, punk, and lately the karaoke gypsys) and still keep coming back strong, proving once again (with their New 2006 release"Can You Dig It" on Prime Entertainment) that their brand of ENERGETIC- ELECTRIC BLUES is once again at the forefront of the "NEW" Face of Chicago Blues!!
HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE-
Blue Plate Special was there at the Cellar in Arlington Heights,IL. in '69-'72 opening for Howlin' Wolf, Willie Dixon's Chicago Blues Allstars, Zephyr w/ Tommy Bolin on guitar and The Bob Seger System.
They were among the artists that played at the Otis Spann Memorial Benefit where Willie Dixon and Buddy Guy introduced the blues community to KoKo Taylor doing Wang Dang Doodle.
They were one of the first bands to lead the famous Blue Monday Jam session at Chicago's Kingston Mines( with Studebaker John on Harp at the time). Blue Plate was the house band for 2 years at John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd's Blues Brothers Bar on Wells Street.
CONCERTS, FESTIVALS and CORPORATE/ PRIVATE SHOWS-
They have entertained at the Chicago Bears Fan Convention, Wyeth Pharmacueticals Convention and Sears Corporate shows as well as many private affairs,weddings and memorials such as the hugely attended "Jody Noa Memorial" at 115 Bourbon Street (to remember Jody "Chicago's Blues Harmonica master" and benefit his family).
They have energized the festival crowds at Joliet, Il. BBQ and Blues Fest, AuroraFest, Blues On the Fox, Winfield Days, Harvest Fest- Plainfield, Cornfest- DeKalb, Classic Car Daze- Morris, IL., Joliet Junior College's Renaissance Ballroom, Chicago's Rebel Knights MC "Childrens Hospital Benefits" and many others! Most recently at "The Midnight Madness Races" Marathon in Ames, Iowa on July 12th /08, where we played to a crowd in excess of 2000. Over the years, Blue Plate Special has shared the stage as well as provided an energetic, crowd pleasing opening for Charlie Musselwhite, Paul Butterfield, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Siegal-Schwall Blues Band, Heartsfield, Leon Russell, Edgar Winter, Lonnie Brooks, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Rare Earth, Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials, Mitch Ryder, The Kinsey Report, Larry McCray and Wayne Baker Brooks.
Blue Plate Special has a great affinity for knowing how to read a crowd and provide the perfect lead in for the major act !!
The band has played almost every major and minor club around Chicagoland at least once. To those of you we may have missed, Now is the time to get on board!

RECORDINGS-
Blue Plate Special released two vinyl albums and two 45 rpm singles between 1969 and '71 on SUMMIT Records (out of print). Four cassette only EP releases between 1994 and '98.
Finally Worldwide Radio and Blue Plate Special have found each other through the 3 full length CD's released since 1998 ( No Place to Fade /1998, The Blues Ain't Pretty /2000 and Can You Dig It /2006 ). All these CD's are available worldwide on Prime Entertainment thru CDBaby and DWM music. (selected songs are available here for download, all CD's thru our website at www.blueplatespecialband.com and over 40 different download sites including- I Tunes and AudioLunchbox and Rhapsody)
The new CD "Can You Dig It" has placed highly on radio since it's introduction. The album has 7 songs that have reached No. 1 chart position on surveys at Electric Blues Radio and Midnight Special Blues Radio on Live 365. "Rocket In Your Pocket" reached 1 on Terry Iredales "Rock and Blues" satellite radio show in Australia (April/07). There are 10 songs from the album in the top 20 on internet Blues Radio. As of 03/08/07 we have solicited and answered requests from radio all over the world to place CAN YOU DIG IT ! onto their airwaves. The list gets longer every week (see radio station scroll box below) and they and their listeners are becoming FAMILY to us. CHICAGO has been heard from AGAIN!!!
We are very proud of our accomplishments again this time around and thank DON GRIFFIN our Engineer-Producer at VITAL MUSIC RECORDING for Truly Capturing our LIVE sound. Don was a founding member of Chicago's "HOUNDS". He was also a guitarist with Junior Wells and Tyrone Davis before releasing 3 scorching solo albums of his own. He is now one of the most sought after Engineer-Producers in Chicagoland.
