Bruce Springsteen meets Jonathan Richman and together they kick Lou Reed's ass while listening to Johnny Cash cover some Dylan songs. Neil Young stands aside and watches, not wanting to get involved; he then goes to write a song about it, which Pete Townsend later covers. The song doesn't chart but is admired by scattered fans across the globe who are still awaiting a world tour.
“Southern/heartland mix of the Rolling Stones, the Replacements and the Velvet Underground. Only related to Woody Guthrie in spirit.”
–Paste magazine, Top Ten pick, May 2007.
“There a bit of indie-pop cool in Guthrie’s attitude, slicing wit and catchy melodies.”
–Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Sound Check by Shane Harrison, Jan. 11th, 2007.

there's a scene in "the unbearable lightness of being" in which juliette binoche tells her hubby (daniel day lewis) that she loves the dog more than him, then back-tracks and says "i mean, in a better way; i don't want anything back from her. "
holy lord. a) are all the people in the video except the chick supposed to be going nuts because of the way his voice sounds? b) .. or do they look miserable because is he narrating on their behalf, and they are the lonely protagonist? c) he dances WAY worse than Springsteen, and I didn't know that was possible. although i gotta say, that jig has some soul in it. d) he is doing the above along the east river?!
conclusion: that was amazing + he is a brilliant nut.
Yes...the Clarkston Surf Fest will be one of my favorite venues, henceforth. It's a shame it happens only once a year. Until the next time we meet as aging, beer and dog loving hipsters baking our pale asses under the Sun (which I hope is real soon)...adieu.
hi pup, i thought of you a few times during my trip. twice while thinking of you i took photos. i'm sending this via comment because last time i tried to link you over a message it wouldn't work. here goes. (SQUINT) (that's the highway that rolls through the angeles forest)
Thanks for playing the store again, Sir Guthrie. Record Store Day wouldn't have been the same without you. We'll see you around Twain's soon, for sure...
It is always awesome to meet another writer! I adore your icon, although I am still not past the swatting stage. ;) I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Take care
To the contrary. In Germany, a land I loved dearly and where I was hailed "the American Homer," I was saddened to discover on my last visit the Nazi regime, and at the risk of losing support from a country I so loved and which appreciated me arguably more than at home, I chose to expose the cruelty of that time. As for this Conroy fellow, I believe he's half jesting and half serious. Even so, thank you for bringing my attention to it; I'm frightfully behind on the new writers and my influence (or mostly, it appears, the lack thereof).
