On "Sidewalk Saints," (available at amazon.com, CD Baby, I-Tunes & www.talkingtaco.com) Ben Bowen King's focus is the gospel music played on America's street corners during the 1920s and 1930s. The CD has received a huge number of raves and airplay. (See blog notes) The music contains elements of the blues, ragtime jazz and Appalachian ballads.
Using the resonator/slide guitar backed by a bevy of percussion instruments ranging from spoons to rub boards and hide-covered bass drums, King delivers a vibrant sound.
A fifth generation Texan, King started performing blues and folk music during his teens along Austin's storied Red River Street. He is currently performing "Sidewalk Saints" music as well as early jazz at club, churches and concerts throughout the U.S.
Ben is working on his follow up CD, "Grandma's Grace," which focuses on "old timey" gospel from East Texas.
