A melody that unveils fresh emotion...an unusual idea that shifts perspective...an unexpected turn in a journey. This is the musical truth of Anwar F. Robinson.
At the age of four, Anwar was creating melodies at the keyboard purchased by his mother and the creative journey began. By the age of ten, his perfectly pitched ear and vocal training were shared with the world while traveling with the renowned Newark Boys’ Chorus. His then budding voice graced several national tours including the (first) Inaugural Celebration of former President Bill Clinton, as well as international tours to countries such as the Czech Republic.
Anwar’s amazing aural skills were developed further in High School under the intense tutelage of the finest music educators. It was during this time that his passion for teaching began as he assisted in accompanying and directing his High School Gospel Choir. His inspiration merged from many genres and the excellence of his budding talent merited a scholarship to Westminster Choir College of Rider University where he expanded and polished his musical style and technique. Having graduated with a Bachelor of Music, there were few limits to the realms of this young man’s abilities as he had already embodied the role of an educator, director, vocal coach, songwriter, producer, arranger, pianist, and vocalist.
Still desiring to give back, this passionate artist served faithfully as a music educator in the New Jersey Public School Systems of Elizabeth and West Orange respectively. Many students discovered their gifts and began their journey as they learned the discipline needed to be the best among the best. Anwar describes this rewarding opportunity as pleasurable and honorable servitude. His vocal range, agility, and strength began to draw the appeal of several notables such as music mogul Clive Davis and national television shows with Patti Labelle, Chef Emeril Lagasse and many more.
Now in the public eye, he took a chance and auditioned for Fox Network’s, American Idol: The Search for a Superstar. This step of blind faith landed an incredible Top Ten Status as well as a Summer 2005 Tour of the United States and Toronto, Canada, where he performed for over 500,000 people in over 40 cities.
He is eternally grateful to God for all of the opportunities afforded to him in already achieving many of his life’s dreams and goals of improving the quality of people’s lives through music, education, philanthropy, and humanitarianism.
Recently, Anwar was asked to serve as the Co-Chairperson for the United Way of Essex and West Hudson County’s Celebrity Read Program (New Jersey). Mr. Robinson will use his teaching abilities and notoriety to reach students in schools in his native town of Newark and its surrounding communities.
