"The Australian songbird is a rare treat - a solo female vocalist who can sing beautifully, write moving songs, play guitar wonderfully well and exude warmth for the audience all at the same time." - Teresa Mallam, Free Press Canada.
With her unique fusion of acoustic folk blues, independent Australian singer-songwriter and wandering troubadour Anita George has been captivating audiences with her rich voice, percussive guitar playing and poetic sensibilities. The lead track from her second release ‘The River’ has gained national airplay on Triple J and community radio in Australia and international airplay on ‘Talksport’, the UK’s largest commercial radio station. Having been selected to showcase at the NXNE festival in Toronto, Canada, George is quickly emerging as ‘one to watch’ on the international music scene.
Growing up in her artistically diverse hometown on Hobart, Tasmania, George honed her craft over several years of touring festivals and venues across the country including Falls Festival, Australian Music Week, the Melbourne Fringe Festival, Backdrop Festival (Qld), Manchester Lane, the Cornish Arms (Vic), Tongue and Groove (Qld), Das Kapital (ACT), the Republic Bar (Tas), Nannup Music Festival (WA) and International Women’s Day Festivals (Vic, WA and Tas). She was a grand finalist in the Australian Busking Championships; PBS Fm Festival of Song and winner of the NMIT Battle of the Bands 2005 with a recording prize enabling her to record her EP The River.
She has two releases behind her - the full length CD ‘Shooting for the Moon’ released in July 2005 and ‘The River’ released in October 2006 - and her song ‘Caught in the Middle’ has also been included in compilation ‘Amplified – Sounds of Tasmania’ released in November 2005.
Labelled by the Sydney Morning Herald as ‘Hobart’s purveyor of sultry blues folk’, George is steadily gathering a loyal following through her constant national and international touring schedule and garnering a well deserved reputation as being in the forefront of the next crop of emerging Australian musical artists.
This is a personal invitation to go right now and listen to 3 new tracks we've just finished recording. These are brand new songs with the new line-up, and we'd love to hear your feedback on our new direction in creative dimensions.
Hi Anita, It sounds like your having a great life experience in South America. We hope that you can come back this way soon. Thanks for the kind words about us on your blog. I bet your writing songs like crazy? All the best from Nova Scotia!
Hey, how's travels? Happy belated birthday (did I get that right, or is it coming up shortly?) Hope all's going well and hope to catch you in Melbourne sometime soonish. Take care, xxx
Hi Anita, I hope the jungle treats you well. Emaline Delapaix and friends will play a concert in our small village church in April. Kind regards from Switzerland Hans
Hi Anita, thanks for writing, I never had been in the jungle. I read your travelling reports, your journey must be very exciting and adventurous - here in my small village it's so quiet and peaceful. And raining. All the best for the next steps...and your music and voice is so good, I discovered you here only some days ago Hans
nita! i'm so glad to hear that you are safe and having adventures. :) i am doing very well, just continuing my work on compositions and such. my mother says "hello!" and to stay safe and if you get stuck send smoke signals but be careful not to burn down what's left of the jungle!
just checking to see how things are dear, i hope you're having wild adventures experiencing wonderful things and greeting a beauty as great as your heart.
Please check out our myspace - we added a showcase for very talented artists without a label. Lots of genres awaiting artists. Visit us at http://www.spectrarecords.com.

Looks like you enjoyed Canada as much as I did :) A plug for my new song Rogue State (about the Howard government's appalling record on climate change) that you can listen to on my myspace. xx Dave
