Childhood friendships that extend into adulthood are rare but bonds between friends created in those adolescent years that morph into an intelligent three-piece metal band are unheard of. For three childhood friends, brothers’ Tyrel Choat (guitars / vocals), Dustin Choat (bass) and Damien Keith Grober (drums), it’s just the way life was for the friends that have forged their talents forming the trio known as Addnerim.
Even though the three had varying musical influences while growing up, there was one common ingredient; all were raised in musical families. The three conclude their influences range from but are not limited to Rush, Yes, King Crimson and Tool.
The older of the Choat brothers, Tyrel explained the name Addnerim was conceived from the Latin words “Ado” which means to bring into and “Neuro” meaning to derive from the mind. With a little creative spelling, the band’s name was born.
Always wanting to challenge themselves individually by creating their brand of heavier progressive styled rock, Addnerim released two independently and limited pressed EPs in what would become know as the Sheep Amidst the Wolves series. The first being titled Sheep Amidst the Wolves Part I containing three tracks featuring the head turning “Astronomy” which immediately gained Addnerim attention. The second part of the series which consisted of the previously three released tracks and three new songs was titled The Attack. The disc featured “Silverburst” another standout track earning Addnerim even more notoriety from peers and veterans of the Dallas, Texas metal scene.
The final step of the Sheep Amidst the Wolves series has been taken with the release of the 54-minute full length debut titled The Potential Threat which features three new tracks, “Against the Current,” “The Potential Threat” and “The Will” as well as the six songs from the previous EPs which have now been mastered and given new life. The result is a disc full intelligent lyrically content accompanied by supreme musicianship that’s relatively years ahead of where the members should be for their ages.
With that said, Addnerim has emerged the cocoon with brilliant life that confines many independent releases. They’re poised to spread their wings like a grand Monarch, ready to migrate into the minds of new territories.
