Yussef Ahmed is a musical poet extraordinaire, spoken graphic artist and cultural activist who has been on the cutting edge of literature & music.
His work is defined by the impressive funk credentials of his band that fuses a wide range of poetic & musical genres. His music continues to bridge cultural and social gaps and is increasingly accessible to wide and diverse audiences.

Yussef’s nationwide performances have graced social clubs and art centres. His music is eclectic, covering a myriad of themes that are delivered with a searing passion and authenticity. Accompanied by a group of innovative musicians, his charisma and candour are embraced by anyone who has seen him perform.

His articulate and deft use of poetic license has also become one of his signature and artistic features. He has also entertained at various outdoor events such as WOMAD, Cheltenham Literature Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Yussef’s has shared the spotlight with many a renowned musical artists; most recently with Mutabaruka, Benjamin Zephaniah, Youssou N 'Dour and Gabrielle. His live performance is a fusion of social commentary and pulsating rhythms which have been critically acclaimed as creative and provocative.

London born of Trinidadian parents, Yussef studied Social Policy & Social Work at The University of Central England and worked as a Senior Social Worker with Birmingham City Council for twenty two years before he retired in June 2013.

Yussef is hailed as a musical poet extraordinaire because of his unique brand. As a performer he has the rare ability to captivate an audience through the stunning and sometimes wry delivery of his views on a range of contemporary and sometimes controversial subjects. His eloquence and dexterity leaves you with a feeling of unity and happiness as his poems successfully dances from the page to the stage. His performances are famous for igniting audiences to a frenetic and scintillating crescendo. His artistry promotes unity among diverse creeds and engenders a feeling of optimism, hope and fulfilment.

Yussef’s has produced five full-length albums of poetry and music on the Hilal On Wax label. He has collaborated with various producers, most notably Paul Brook, who has arranged music for the English dance duo Coldcut, and Paul Hauton who is best known for his work with the international reggae band Steel Pulse.

Yussef's poem 'For No One' and his lyrics on 'New World' and 'Go Boy' have been recorded by the widely acclaimed Zap Mama. His music has also been featured on the award winning documentary by Hal Aqah Press entitled, 'Five Hundred Years Later.

He has toured extensively throughout Europe and many of his performances have been featured on national media.
