THE BEGINNING...

From 1995 to 2002, Tamara Picardo found herself playing keyboards for one of Uruguay's biggest Death Metal bands, Eclampsy. After seven years she had a vision to form what has gone on to become one of the most unique bands to come out of South America, Upon Shadows...

Tamara was quick to release the band's first 14 track self-titled release in 2003, where she was joined by Marcelano Aguilar (ex Thy Dominion) on lead vocals and guitars, and Natalia Arocena (ex Sigma Sentinel /Alsirat/ Asgard) on bass. The release was a conceptual album dealing with magic and myth, and established what would go on to be the band's multi-layered atmospheric signature sound. Tamara's haunting keyboards and piano work quickly set them apart from the pack...

THE REBIRTH...

After a 6 year break, Upon Shadows returned in 2009 with the release of 'The Huge Circle of Time', this time with Tamara on lead vocals. The album consisted of 6 tracks, 3 showcasing the bands brutal side, and 3 intrumental keyboard songs. The album recieved widespread acclaim...

One short year later, Upon Shadows returned with the the release of the now iconic 'Melodies in Grey Scale'. This release was the first Upon Shadows album to feature only Tamara Picardo (now handling all guitars, making it her most personal work so far) and Natalia Arocena on bass.

Conceptually, the album dealt with depression but through Metal, being able to see the beauty even in the darkest of places. The album recieved much coverage and positive reviews and took Upon Shadows to a whole new level...

In 2011, Upon Shadows (through Satanica Productions) released 'Only Keys & Whispers', a 16 track masterpiece featuring only instrumentals, some of which were made for the Uruguay television show, Voces Anónimas.

Upon Shadows went on to expand their body of work with the release of 'Tenebre' (2011 EP), 'Tragic Prelude' (2011 single), 'The Way to the Pleiades' (2012 single), 'Dark Ambient Sounds and Textures' (2012 instrumental LP), and a collaborative EP release with Melenkolia, 'Shadows Echo Melancholy' (2012).

Tamara Picardo has also contributed keyboards and vocals to various other bands and projects...

THE PRESENT...

In 2012 Upon Shadows release their most ambitious project yet, '7 Chapters (Shadows of Despair and Other Entities)', featuring 7 epic tracks of atmospheric brutality/beauty. The album has recieved widespread acclaim...

2013 sees the band sign/partner with Canadian based Goetic Records, a co-operative label started in 1994 by Kosta Bayss (APVTH/Episcopal Holocaust).
