She has studied Opera, jazz, gospel & popular music with several teachers in Arizona & California. Uma obtained a coveted Opera performance scholarship & attended Northern Arizona University. She sings in several languages including Italian, French, German & Spanish. Her early influences include: Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Chaka Khan; lately she loves singing songs made famous by: Jessie J., Colbie Callait, Christina Aguilera, Sugarland, Norah Jones, Alicia Keys & Maroon 5. Her style is eclectic, encompassing R&B, Jazz, Latin, Broadway & gospel styles. Singing harmonies with Dave is one of her favorite things of all time!

Dave Ojeda has been a professional musician for 30 years. He plays guitar, bass & ukulele. He most recently performed with Johnny Shot in Kailua Kona, Hawaii, on bass for 11 years; on Oahu he played with Bud Cerio & the Now, who opened up for BB King. Dave’s influences include: the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Rolling Stones, Santana and Aerosmith and he has an appreciation for Jazz, Blues & Latin music. He has played for Hewlett Packard, Adobe, Marcus & Millichap, Herbalife and at the Fairmont Orchid, Four Seasons, Mauna Lani, Hapuna Prince and Hilton Waikoloa. Johnny Shot has graced Hawaii for twelve years with Dave featured on bass. His collaboration with Uma began in 2009 when they met and their romance commenced. On their first date she sang with his band. She quickly convinced him to return to guitar to play at churches on the Big Island of Hawaii. This led to more and more gigs while adding a wider range of musical styles to their repertoire. Music is also a big part of their romance! Uma & Dave were married on the Big Island of Hawaii in 2011

Together Dave & Uma make up the UmaZuma Duo: playing pop, rock, R&B, reggae, jazz, blues & Latin music with a strong leaning towards newer music, which deserves attention for the fun & vibrant energy it brings to the dance floor and most especially for your listening pleasure. Dave is a humble, talented musical genius who can learn songs by ear quickly while Uma likes to put her silky, smooth 4-octave range vocals to the test whenever possible. She also plays ukulele while Dave plays bass. Together they are a match made in musical heaven.

Uma & Dave began their tour of the world playing music to uplift in August 2013! Beginning with China, they taught English and played music there while making friends from all over the world! Hong Kong was a fun monthly excursion; India was a spiritual vacation in January 2014. They are ready to travel again for your event or music festival. They are also working on creating a performing arts school for kids to find what they love to do in life and do it! Currently they make their home in Sedona, Arizona. Future plans include finding bed & breakfasts or very nice hotels who will love their style of music in exchange for housing perhaps in India, Greece, Portugal or another warmer European country...keep us posted if you know of anyone who would love to host us.
