English composer and organist who spent all of his life in Bath and was in service there until his death.
Chilcot's primary vocation was found in instrument sales and teaching. The main corpus of his compositions were Shakespearean verse put to music and his work was popular during his lifeime. Suites which he composed owe a debt of influence to Handel and sets of concertos a debt to the new lucid, pleasing and courtly style developing in music. ~ Keith Johnson
