The Popeye is a Hungarian indie band formed in 2013.
They have a unique sound by combining indie with other genres.

The band was formed in 2013 from two acoustic formations: the Illegal Formation (still exists with Keve and Adam) and the Wireless (Anna Toth, Gergely Szula and Mate Dozsa-Juhasz) which had an end when the two bands united.

They united for a camp where they played their first show as support band for the Budapest Ska Nu-Jazz Orchestra with and audience of 200 people.

At this time they didn't have a bass player. Anna fulfilled the role of the bass with her cello. Later in September Anna left the band to start her studies and move to the capital. Oliver joined the band in October 2013 with bass. The band turned to a heavier, crunchier sound.

Their first EP (MINDLESS EP) was recorded in February 2013 in an amateur studio in Pécs. The album consists of three completely different songs. The EP still shows the sound of their early career.

They had several shows in their home country.

Their second record (You Never Ask For Permission Until You Are In a Great Trouble SINGLE) was recorded in October 2014 in their home-made-studio. It was mixed and mastered by Oliver and his cousin Bence Irsik. They song was played by a radio station in Manchester.
