Hong Kong Dong - 'Sweet Sensations' (releasedate May 7th, 2012)
By turns quirky and irreverent, Hong Kong Dong combines a knack for sugary melodies with more noisy bursts of avant-rock. With songs that are built around harddriving electronic grooves and featuring gleefully absurd lyrics, their music evokes the spirit of bands like the Flaming Lips, Deerhoof, Talking Heads, Prince and Sparks, fusing these influences into a new kind of futuristic pop ecstacy.

Hong Kong Dong's center evolves around brother-sister duo Sarah Yu and Boris Zeebroek who started performing around 2008 and quickly turned heads with their natural stage presence, juggling deadpan absurdism and songs with addictive hooks. Hong Kong Dong took a big step forward when guitar player Geoffrey Burton joined the band. Burton, a veteran of the Belgian rock scene (Arno, Alain Bashung, Iggy Pop, PJDS...) started infusing the songs of the Zeebroek siblings with his trademark jagged riffs, Martian blues wails and more atmospheric guitar skronk and thus propelled Hong Kong Dong into a next level.

With this line-up, Hong Kong Dong started touring large scale venues in Europe as support for French legend Cali, played shows with bands like Deerhoof and Digitalism, and were part of two editions of Soulwaxmas. Recently, Belgian powerhouse dEUS invited them to support them during the French, Portugese and Spanish sections of their 2012 tour.

Last year the band released 'Lesbians are a boy's best friend', an EP that gave fans a little taste of what was brewing in their pots. Now they're ready to hit the clubs with their debut album 'Sweet Sensations' wich comes out on CD and LP and is graced with eyecatching artwork by Sarah Yu Zeebroek herself. The album is a collection of highly intricate yet hooky electro-pop, that is cheery and weirdly danceable one moment and more bittersweet and trashy the next. Hong Kong Dong presents a universe that is filled with an exuberant playfulness and sardonic glee, a world where the artrock heroes of the seventies and eighties are dissected and reassambled into a Frankenstein-like monster of grooves, hooks and wit.

'Sweet Sensations' was mastered at Translab by Benjamin Joubert (Justice, Mr. Oizo, Uffie and Charlotte Gainsbourg).
