Seattle-based alternative rock band Goodness was formed in mid-1994 by ex-Hammerbox vocalist Carrie Akre, guitarists Danny Newcomb and Garth Reeves, bassist Fiia McGann, and drummer Chris Friel.
After earning a thriving fan following throughout the northwest, Goodness independently issued their self-titled debut LP in 1995; the group signed to Atlantic's Lava imprint soon after, making their label debut on the Schoolhouse Rock! Rocks compilation. (A reissue of the Goodness album followed soon after.) After self-releasing Five Song E.P. in late 1997, the group jumped to Epic, where Anthem appeared a year later. ~ Jason Ankeny
