Steves J. Bryan
Also known as the sniper, is a sharp shooter, someone who has a target and will hit that particular target by any means. Well, that is not the only significance of the word.

Steves J. Bryan is a rapper. His music, manner, and magnetism are undeniably, what make him different from the other rappers we are used to hearing.

This revelation was born on September 19th 1989 at Cap Haitien, Haiti under the legal the name of Steves Bryan Joseph. The rapper is born of a Dominican mother and Haitian father He continues.

Previous to becoming the man he is today, the rapper has had his own share of struggles that he has overcome in the course of prayer and meditation.

. He speaks of his struggles in his music but not in his daily life. “I once told my mama I was hungry. She told me to go dream about food,” he recalls. “That honestly did help me, because I was required to use my mind.”

Steves explains that his struggles have taught him to manage his emotions, to make right decisions and predominantly to be a leader within his community, family and friends.

“I don’t use my struggles for honor or glory. I know my potentials . Mwen konn kote menm ka rive. I use my struggles to help young minders in order for them to be strong. If people want to look at the good things I have done and follow them that’s great. As you follow the good I’ve done, remember that I have done wrong like every one else. I’m not perfect.” He explains.

Personality

Steves is a very humorous individual. He may say a very amusing line on a track and laugh right after it. “I take pleasure in the funny things I say, like this line I said on one of my tracks: ‘I don’t do magic/ but I can show you a trick/ there she is on top of my dick.’” He says laughing.

“Lot’s of people say I’m cocky. Yeah, I’m cocky” he agrees. “So what?” He jokes.

Steves believes in school instruction. He says he is just a ghetto child with ghetto education and street knowledge. He balances school knowledge and street knowledge in order to define his personality. As he says on a track with Dailand Crew, a group of rappers based in France: “It’s the ghetto child/with a rebel style/on his hustle pal/putting muscles out/using forces now/ that his mental found / to overcome obstacles given by life/we living to fight/bust metal and aim for the light/we got ghetto education and street knowledge/learn our logic calculation from street corners/we use our imagination to get dollars/we got mind elevation and great powers.” (From Enfant Du Ghetto also featuring Rockfam.

Every so often, he is the committed schoolchild and other times, he goes ghetto. “I can’t help it. I’m from the ghetto. I’ll never forget where I’m from.”

In spite of his ghetto background, the rapper says he hates drama. “I try to avoid verbal conflicts with people. (Quoting from his song ‘Pistol in My Pocket’) “It’s time to be conscious, let’s all learn and be aware of what we say, ain’t no strongest weapons then the words we use everyday.”

The artist explains that the Dominican side of his parentage gives him his Christian ethics. Still, he emphasises on the fact that he isn’t part of any religion. “My religion is love.” He says. “I make the right balance in everything. Give Caesar what is to Caesar and God what is to God.” He finishes.

Perception

“Beyond the walls of intelligence, life is defined.” He says. The man has a perception that he calls a philosophy. Is it what he is saying in his lyrics? Is it just about “I got the flavor of the hood, call me hot sauce?”

No, it isn’t about any of that. He’s a man of spirit, wisdom and intelligence. Contrasting most rappers in the game, Sniper does not smoke or drink. His words are profound and catchy constantly comparing this to that, making people say damn every time, but always wanting more after the last listen.

His influences? In daily life they include Spirituality, nature’s energy, the forces in him along with art, hip-hop, rap, soul, jazz, blues, and classical music. Other essential factors that influenced the rapper’s life are God, Jesus, the Holy Bible, and wise words that come from those who are deep and high minded. The people who influence him in his music are Method Man, 50 cent, Eminem, and Nas.

“Intelligence is all around us so I take my time to observe the positive energy in all of us everywhere.” He says. “[I’m influenced by] everybody who has something positive to say, the light is in every one of us we just need to seek it.” He concludes.

Music

Steves’s career debuted as a ghost-writer. His lyrics were the intellect behind various hits in the Rap Kreyol genre such as Men Vibe La, Pa Proche, (Rockfam) and Fresh to Death remix (Curt and Dug G.)Etc…

By the early 2000’s the ghost finally came to life. In the course of 2001, as he free styled in schools around Haiti’s capital city, Port-au-Prince, the upcoming artist began to gain recognition as a fine rapper. In the same year, he gave his first live performance with an unknown rap group at Saint Louis de Gonzague during one of the school’s most attended events, La Famille Saint Lousienne. The performance wasn’t prepared or rehearsed. “I don’t like to sit around and prepare for a show. I like to get on the stage and improvise. It works every single time.” Subsequently, in March 2006 the young artist met Dug G, one of Rockfam’s well-known rappers and free styled for him. He liked Sniper’s freestyle and proposed him to join REPLIK, a Rockfam affiliated rap group. Later, Sniper joined REPLIK and gave his first performance with the group on May 17th 2006. He continued performing REPLIK and even recorded Konbyen w Genyen (he wrote the song) which is accompanied by a video.

The numerous performances with REPLIK also led to frequent performances with Rockfam. His biggest performance with Rockfam was on May 16th 2009, at the Haitian Compas Festival in Miami, Florida, USA. In addition to performances with Rockfam, he has recorded Enfant Du Ghetto with the group (the track also features Dailand Crew) and is also accompanied by a video. In early 2009, Sniper left REPLIK for personal reasons. In the same year, the rapper began his solo career, with an album in production. While working on his album he has also participated on numerous musical collaborations in both the Rap Kreyol and Hip-Hop genres.

Steves raps because he thinks music is revolution and power; revolution of the mind and power of the thought. Rap is the best way for him to let out everything steaming inside of him.

“A musician serves the public like a pastor serves his parishioners with words that change their lifelines. I consider myself a flute that the Lord can blow through to play melodies.” He explains pensively.

Steves J. Bryan is the man with the target, the man aiming for the light and positivism. Regardless of the obstacles in his way, he will hit the target. His next target? You. His lyrics are powerful enough to hit you and leave you mystified. You don’t believe it? Check out his tracks!

In 2000 Sniper began junior high school at College Roger Anglade. Later, in 2003 he was kicked out of the school because of his turbulence and hyperactivity. After being kicked out of College Roger Anglade, he enrolled in CEC and stayed there from 2003-2006. In 2007, he entered College Frantz Paillière, which is where he graduated high school.

“Before I ever went to the United States, the only travelling I did was through books and the internet. I educated myself through everything positive I could find. I’m not a genius, I’m just aware,” Sniper says.
