Originally from Washington, DC, Steve Rochinski is an angular, cerebral post-bop/hard bop guitarist who has been active on the Boston jazz scene since the 1970s.
It was during that decade that Rochinski moved to Boston to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, and he went on to become a faculty member in 1984. After studying with guitar great Tal Farlow and being employed as a sideman by trumpeters Conte Candoli and Tim Hagans and pianist Bob Dogan, Rochinski finally provided his first album as a leader, Until Further Notice…, for Line Out in 1993 (when he was 39). Subsequently, the guitarist recorded A Bird in the Hand, which Jardis put out in 1999. ~ Alex Henderson
