Stephen W. Beatty born December 13, 1938 in Salina,Kansas. In Colby, Kansas began private piano lessons using the Schirmer method at age 8 from a local piano teacher. (name unknown) Studied theory and harmony at age 16 with Morton Mann in Denver, Colorado until age 18.

Entered a Catholic seminary in 1956 to study to be a Catholic priest. Left the Seminary in 1958 and enrolled at University of Colorado to study Chemistry. Graduated from University of Colorado with a BA in Chemistry in 1961. Worked as a chemist for 5 years. Moved to New York city to study art (painting) at the Art Students League. Changed careers to teach Chemistry in the New York Public Schools. Received a MA in Science Education from City College New York in 1968. Met Diana Reil, a fellow art student, in New York and was married in 1966. Returned to Denver, Colorado. Teaching experience include, the New York Public Schools for 3 years and Jefferson County Public Schools for 25 years until retiring in 1994.

Returned to the study of musical composition and composing with the advent of midi in 1984. First music system was a Mac SE and an 8bit emax keyboard running the sequencing software Master Tracks. Studied composition and electronic music briefly with George Arisomovich at University of Colorado. Continued to compose in spare time until 1994 when he retired from teaching at age 55 to compose full time. Produced five albums of symphonies 1995 – 1998 in the neoromantic style using Miroslav samples. Did not publish any other works until2010 when the Vienna Symphonic Library and MIR software became available. Since2010 has published 270 compositions ranging from solo works for piano,harpsichord and strings to symphonic works on the You tube channel “Bachbeatty” current work is also posted on Google+, Stephen W. Beatty.

The earlier work was in the post romantic with emphasis on melody and tonal harmony with a tonal center. Over time the work became more classical in content and then moved into a more modern approach without a tonal center and less emphasis on melody although not its exclusion.

Stephen focused on sharing the music via YouTube site“bachbeatty” or Stephen W. Beatty and saving the scores as standard midi files.More recently audio score are being posted on YouTube as they are completed He has collected the last two years output in 12 albums that will be available to the public at some future date. In February of 2013 he began scoring work created since July 2010. Currently, 282 scores have been completed, copyrighted and sent to the Library of Congress. Since, February, 2013 he has produced six compositions for concert band average playing time about 10-15 minutes.

Although his given family name in Beatty a recent genetic analysis revealed that he is a Posey. His great grandparents Dr. George Frederick Beatty and Liza Posey Beatty adopted his grandfather whose y chromosome links his heritage to General Thomas Posey, a revolutionary war hero.

Stephen lives in Wheat Ridge, Colorado with his wife of 47 years. He composes music each day and his output continues to accelerate as he ages. He is currently 75 year old.
