DEADLY BREED (2012–present)
In 2012 SPEEDRACER parted ways with parts oftheir rhythm section to pursue other musical interests, this gave way to a moresolid line up of Damien Kechagias and Darren Rossi joining the ranks on bass& drums respectively. The band took time away from the live scene to refinetheir craft and write some amazing material while doing the occasional surpriseshow to test out new material on their fans.
In late2013 SPEEDRACERfinished building their own custom studio and rehearsal room. They then beganthe recording of their self-produced debut full length album Deadly Breed in late 2014. A more refinedmature outing accessible to all age brackets and music tastes while keeping100% true to themselves.
Deadly Breed is currently infinal stages of mastering by Jack the Bear of Deluxe Mastering in Melbourne. The Album is set for a mid-2016 release.
Musical style and influences
The band have cited influences such as Alicein Chains, Tool, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, The Beatles,Black Sabbath, Motley Crüe, Radiohead and Pearl Jam. While also crediting various other artists as inspiration, theband, however, acknowledges that while they don't sound like a mash up of thesebands, they have all definitely infused our minds with a love for writing epic, harmony layered and high energy songs with catchy lyrics which they like tocall the sing along factor.
The creative process has been described asspontaneous and inspirational, with the band often finishing the structure ofcontent of songs in the recording studio. According to the band, "the guysare very much creative players it really is refreshing to be in a band whereyou are inspired by your brothers, it really is a family”. If we have a basicstructure, what we do generally is take the seeds of the songs into the studioand just jam around with it — record everything, then have a listen and thenstructure the parts together to suit Jason's vocal ideas. If we can't get itout of our heads and find ourselves singing along every time, we know we're onthe right path.
