::::::: Liner Notes for featured bands :::::::
::::::::: "AstroVamps" ::::::::: and I did a double album called "Amerikan Gothick". 19 songs that I recorded this at Lincoln Lounge Studio in Venice CA and finished mixing at my place in 2004. The album contributed tracks to more than a handful of compilations in the states and Europe, garnishing more press than the band seen and secured them a European tour. With the bands full trust and faith in our collaboration, they were a pleasure to work with.
::::::::: "Twinstar" :::: 2001 featuring former members of "The THe" and the "Mighty Lemon Drops". Mixing in a way that comes natural to me with a singer-writer who moonlighted in the band "the Church", this album was purposely and purely soaked full of audible atmosphere and mood swings.
::::::::: "Chihuahua" :::: A band I nurtured for two years doing demos that got them the big manager, then a influential attorney and finally a deal with "Island Records" who was pushing them to be Americas answer to Oasis back in the day. We had the industry buzz and support from the label who Loved the demos. As the co-producer and engineer, I was pushing to keep the album in my small studio but the label threw a big budget at the band, so off to the big studio we went. But in the end, the pressure from the label and working 70-90 hour weeks throughout the winter of 96 was too much and the band broke up before I could finish the mixes. That one hurt . . . . Mixed the old fashion way (no computers), I have a few of our original demos here recorded in my garage studio.
::::::::: "Extra Fancy" :::: was the first big Silverlake band export and signed to Atlantic records. This punk rock band had a big hit on their first album and their manager Paul V called me up to do a special remix of their hit single to extend their monumentous high throughout the summer. We got good air-time on KROQ back when it was the most influential radio station in the country. You can catch a clip of it at the end of the song.
::::::::: "Ashley Hamilton" :::: What can I say. This song got him a record deal but he never paid me. His celebrity father is a really nice guy and a good cook though. Go figure. At least I got his Les Paul. Oh, and some great players are on thi
gtr+bass ( John Mayer, Rufus Wainwright, Sarah McLachlan, Iggy Pop), Dave Palmer on drums (Rod Stewart, ABC). Recorded in my garage studio. :::: ::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::"Circus Panic" :::: was a tough east Hollywood garage band with fighting brothers from west Pennsylvania. Their musical roots were steep in the "alternative rock tradition" and frequent favs of KXLU (alt. college station in LA). Hanging out with them a lot I did see them fight, but it was never in the studio. 1994 :::: ::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::: :::::::::::::::: "Exploding Pintos" :::: write songs about the true street level experience of living in Hollywood. With their punk-garage attitude and experience in many other bands, Ex P's capture a danger in their Hollywood sound that compare to "Concrete Blonde", "Dramarama" or "X". My job was to make their EP sound as dangerous and true to life as their songs. :::: ::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::
::::::::: :::::::::::::: "Johnny Go" :::: were independently all friends of mine. A super cross pollenating band that had 6% of separation to every cool Silverlake band in their day. Their singer-guitarist Patrick would run, jump and land in water fountains while playing electric gtr and not even realizing he was wet. Sheer raw energy. We were going to be in a band together but somehow never happened. :::: ::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::
::::::::: "Slow Motorcade" :::: was another enjoying challenge. Extremely talented lads who were out to make a record sound like the second coming of "Cheap Trick" meets "Mott the Hoople" with a "Zeppelin" rhythm section. I was all for making them sound like the albums they grew up listening to. They had great songs but recorded in two different studios at different times and it sounded like it. It's difficult enough to make a great sounding record but when half of the songs sound like they were recorded in Madagascar (no offense Madagascar) there is an added challenge to make two EPs sound like one Album. Now it does. :::: ::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::
::::::::: "Vietnamese Baby":::: When the opportunity came to contribute a song for a "New York Dolls" tribute album that "The" David Johansen and Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) were also working on, the pressure to make a track that could stand out above the hype was a tall order. I produced, mixed and sang lead vocals on tracks that Anthony and his band "Slow Motorcade" performed. Although I had just come back from 9 months in Vietnam with my Vietnamese ex-girlfriend, we truly picked "Vietnamese Baby" because it was one of those lost great songs that needed a great face lift. David was impressed and when the "Dolls" reunited, he started performing his song with my new backup vocal idea. :::: ::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::
::::::::: "Drüma†ic":::: is my own "experimental" project from 2001 but enough about me, listen to the mixes.
