Smokadelic is a rap duo from Youngstown/Warren, OH.
The group started as a side project for both members. Kilo was playing guitar for hardcore band SDI (Stone Def Insanity) while Smac had been putting out his own brand of DIY punk rock since he was in junior high school. Smac was still producing his own work & celebrating the release of his 'Anonymous: the Unknown Genius' album & Kilo became a fan. They met as members in group Burning Westlawn that is comparable to the Wu-Tang Clan in how many members the group had. The group also featured the front man of another local hardcore band, Explicit, who went by the name Xplicit on the Burning Westlan track 'Sifter'. An imminent 'herbalistic' bond was formed between Smac & Kilo being the only bud smokers in the group. Their 1st album was to be entitled "Burning Westlawn presents Smokadelic's Big Tits & Bong Hits," but was shortened to simply "Big Tits & bong Hits" which gave way to their own identity apart from Burning Westlawn. SDI began to burnout as the powers that be began to bar hardcore bands from playing in local venues which shifted Kilo's attention other places. He moved to AZ for a short time & upon returning to OH Burning Westlawn had disbanded. Smac & Kilo then ventured on alone & recorded their 2nd album "SMKDLC" produced by local award winning drummer/producer, Joe Winters. It was received well by most critics, one even dubbed them the white Snoop & Dre. After the album was recorded they began mix into the Cleveland hip hop scene. They played shows & worked with the likes of other local greats such as Tali Demon, Psych Ward, Young Bootzilla, Vinnie Scullo & Microphonyx, received minimal airplay from college radio & consistently opened up for national acts that came through Cleveland. Due to the flood of 'juggalo rappers' that emerged in Cleveland around the same time as them it was a constant battle to stand apart which meant turning down shows more than playing them (purely speculation that Kilo was in fact a fan of Psychopathic Records). As life in general & circumstance began to creep in the group was more of a burden than anything so the duo called it quits. Don't let anyone fool you, in all the years they were paying dues they came across Kid Cudi, Chip the Ripper & other relevant names in the game today, but never MGK. The 2 are probably still stoned watching society eat itself from the underground somewhere.
