it was the coldest day of winter when i awoke/ i put on my cap and my longcoat/ and i walked down the hill/ through the city/ not a soul on the street/ i could have walked in the street/ i felt like i needed the room/ my heart so light and great/ my heart soared like a hawk.
I kept close to the facades/ an there was a breath of warmth/ from their windows and doors and walls/ I came to the bridge on the river/ and the wind/ with the wind my flesh stood out from the bone/ i took my cap off to feel the air/ and i wept for joy/ and for grief.

i knew she was free/ and i knew deep inside/ i knew she would never come back to me/ and i wept long/ and as the tears fell the wind dried them on my cheek/
