retroI$awesome, formerly known as Yung Millz or Retro Kid, is a young aspiring artist from New Jersey.
He has been raised in Hip Hop tradition as his father was a rap artist, in which he would write rhymes for retro to record and perform at a very young age. retro's parents decided to part ways when he was 6, putting an end to his early rap career as his father was not around to write new material for him, but retro was always involved in music during his father's absence. From taking piano lessons for six years (ages 6-12) to writing down rhymes just for fun, one day retro realized that he had a musical talent that stood out from others, and this talent was Hip Hop. At age 13, retro had just entered high school where he met a few upper classmen who were aspiring artists as well. Watching these artists pursue a rap career independently inspired retro to do the same, realizing that he could put out better music than half of the unsigned hype he'd heard of. At the time (which was 2007 or 2008 roughly) he debuted his first single "Gangbangin'" under the name of Yung Millz on MySpace and gained a lot of positive feedback from his hometown, Plainfield NJ. Over the years he realized that he didn't live the ideal "thug life" that he portrayed in his songs and even his own name. This resulted in "Yung Millz" changing his name to "Retro Kid" and allowed him to be more comfortable with the music he made as he now rapped about girls, clothes, and sneakers as opposed to guns, being on the street, etc. Over the course of a few more years we now have "retroI$awesome" and he proceeds to make music that includes details of his everyday lifestyle. retro is influenced heavily by Jay-Z, Drake, Big L, and The Notorious BIG. He looks at his music as a combination between all of these artists with a hint of his own unique style to create the final product. He has done shows all over New Jersey & New York in hopes to increase his fan base, spread his music, and perfect his craft along the way.
