Richard Kruppa, known musically as “Ramblin ’Richard,” performs songs senior groups and communities love to hear and fondly remember.
Along with these memorable songs, he tells interesting stories. The songs span many years and include familiar American popular songs from the 1930s into the 1960s, along with music from Broadway and motion pictures, and some traditional folk, old-time, Gospel, and patriotic tunes, as well. Along with singing, he accompanies himself on acoustic instruments including guitar, banjo, and ukulele. His stories relate to the songs- how they came to be, what was happening in the world when they were popular, and what they dealt with that may not be apparent. The stories are told in an interesting, “…the rest of the story” manner. A retired professor, Ramblin’ Richard establishes an especially relaxed, comfortable and casual rapport with his audiences. A seasoned musician and member of the New England Foundation for the Arts, he studied American folk music as a graduate student and was in a group that opened for the Beach Boys and the Lettermen. Recently, the Seacoast, New Hampshire musician provided music for the sound track of a motion picture. Several of his songs are found on CD, and some of his music is included on a 2012 Christmas CD. He provides shows for all types of senior groups, and residences from independent and assisted living to healthcare and rehabilitation facilities. He offers general programs- which change seasonally- and upon request he performs themed programs tailored to the specific audience- historic music, holiday songs, celebration events- indoors and outdoors, days and evenings, weekdays and weekends.
