Rae Clark
Singer-songwriter and guitarist

Rae Clark’s music is based around an intricate finger-picked guitar style which has evolved from his interest in folk, blues, country and Americana. Many of the compositions are performed using open guitar tunings, such as ‘open D major’, which allow for the simultaneous performance of rhythm, arpeggio and melody.

Lyrically, the songs explore themes of time, loss, travel and change. The mood is often melancholic, warm and reflective. During live performances it is the unique and full solo guitar style which initially attracts the attention of audiences.

Rae began his music in the early 1990s in the folk clubs of the North East, twice recording live sessions for BBC Radio Newcastle. Since moving to Liverpool in 2000, he has performed in a wide range of independent venues, pubs, clubs and bars including: Parr Street 3345, Studio 2, Leaf, The View 2 Gallery, Sound Food and Drink, Liverpool Acoustic, Brink and Camp and Furnace; he is a regular at the Saturday afternoon sessions at Heebie Jeebies on Seel Street and his songs have been featured in Graham Holland’s It’s a Frog’s Life Acoustic Podcasts. Rae has been guest supporting act for TJ and Murphy and Juan Zelada and on Saturday 15th March (9pm) he will perform as supporting artist at Mark Pountney’s album launch at House on Bold Street, Liverpool.

On Sunday 9th March, an interview with Rae will feature as part of BBC Radio Merseyside's Folk Scene: 4pm - 5pm. Monday 24th March sees Rae perform an unplugged set at Neighbourhood, Allerton, Liverpool, from 8pm.
