German popmusic is more popular than ever at present.
Examples for successful exports are Chicks On Speed, Peaches etc. (Articles in "the Face" are reasons to believe that).

However, the old-fashioned guitar passes trough hard times and as matter-of-fact, not only in Germany. Members of band-projects become older while playing the same clubs again and again, at best growing to local heroes, celebrating themselves. Recently, some bands have come together under the so-called "Berlin macht Schule" (Newschool of Berlin). Phonetic wether are nor want to be counted among this term. They've always gone unconventional ways. So, they've never stopped to obtain a hearing abroad with loads of charme. In fact, one can say Phonetic are a british-assigned band because of the english lyrics and the similiarity to Radiohead. Sure, a lot of bands do so, but nethertheless, Phonetic have an open mind on all styles. Their music is influenced by Funk, Psychedelic, Electronic and Punk music. Guitar players Mathias Furkert, Martin Tetzlaff and Lars Hillesheim arrange fresh and poppy melodies on guitar. Singer/songwriter Lars Hillesheim produces songs just like that with cunning lyrics and masters the story-telling à la Pavement or Blur.

He intends to sing against the melodie with pleasure. Beyond question, Phonetic can tickle the listeners auditory nerves tremendiously, as far as the tension in their songs is heard obviously. They produce nice dissonant melodies, which find an unexpected ending, so that the audience got the feeling to have lost the control over the song. Absolutely mad!
