I've been 'Peanut the Clown' for over thirty years, now.
Mostly in Leeds but also in Europe. I've played for over half a million children, that's nearly 7000 shows, and I still love it!

I think this is because I have managed to remain my 'own man' by being a clown! I was born in America and grew up there until I was 7 years old. It was so different from the Manchester I had in my teenage years. The experience of being a child in the America of early sixties left an indelible mark on my artistic imagination.

Living in New Yory City in 1963 was like living on the moon compared to life in dozy old Withington (a suburb of Manchester whjere I grew up and went to school). Not that I often made it to school! i didn't start school until I was seven years old. Later on I would miss three years of secondary school (due to a botched appendisitis operation when I was 11 which meant I had hospital school instead which was cool!). I missed AT LOT of schooling. But I love to learn lots of things all the time. I have a curious nature. So I learned 'how to learh how to learn'. I still and always will study and teach myself things. But how I learn means that what I learn but not necessarily the 'right way ' or 'the convential way' - which is the basis of my clowning! Many people forget there are multiple ways to do anything - we are too busy trying to make sure there is only one way of doing everything everything

I aim to make fun of that!!
