Pataphysics is an Australian music rarity.
Based in Melbourne, a mash up of powerful political flows, trumpet, MPC, live improvised beats, dope basslines, guitar and freestyles.
Lead by the intriguing songwriter, vocalist and trumpet player Pat Marks, who composes hypnotic tracks that weave between the political anthems of hip hop to the smooth tones of soul and jazz, Pataphysics brings an ever changing feel to each song. Proficient on trumpet, bass, keys, MPC, guitar, drums, turntable, percussion, tabla, dolke, panpipes, melodica, spoons, freestyle and beatboxing, he is a revolutionary poet & subversive theorist, with insightful rhymes, in both the English and Sri Lankan language.
Drawing influences from the musical stylings of Miles Davis, Erykah Badu, and Public Enemy, as well as the Sri Lankan, Aotearoan and El salvadorian roots of the live band (IED), Pataphysics has developed a dark, blunted, hypnotic sound known as Soulful Guerilla Hip Hop. With a strong following in the Australian underground for the original blend of hip hop and soul, he has built a solid reputation for his energetic live shows.
Pataphysics' debut album “Subversive” which features the likes of Stic man (Dead Prez) and Rob Swift (X-ecutioners), was listed in the top 15 Albums to come out in 2012 by The Australian Music Prize (AMP). With accolades such as this, a successful national tour and a sold out Album launch Pataphysics is definitely one to catch.
Has toured and performed all over Australia, along side artists such as: DEAD PREZ, J.PERIOD, POIRIER, OLMECHA SUPREME, THE NARCICYST, 360, PEZ, SETH SENTRY, APACHE INDIAN, M-PHAZES, LOTEK, BATUCADA SOUND, MACHINE, MISTA SAVONA, RADICAL SON, JOELISTICS, BIAS B, BARONS OF TANG, CURSE OV DIALECT, among many others.
