A punk rock outfit from Bogota, Colombia, Odio a Botero was founded by guitarist Jaime Angarita and vocalist Sage Rene in 2000.
Both Angarita and Rene had been well known in the cities' punk rock circles, having been a part of the earlier bands Defenza and Basura. Eventually, after having gone through a number of drummer changes (bassist Alejo Pinzon settled in early, and second vocalist Carolina Cantor was in the group by 2001) which finally ended in 2005 by the appointment of Gregorio Merchan, the group was ready to work on recorded material, and emerged from the studio with the EP Omar Nelson in 2002. A full-length, Odio a Botero, followed in 2004. Their next release, the Lechoneria Manson EP, was a huge hit, eventually selling over a million copies, and cemented the band's reputation and place in their home country. 2007 would see Odio a Botero return to the fore, when they released their second full-length collection, Kill the Cuentero. ~ Chris True
