Nikki Lynette, a songwriter, producer, & performer whose sound is equal parts hip hop, alternative, and pop, got her first nationwide recognition in 2010 after ranking 2nd place in Ourstage & New Music Seminar’s “Artist on the Verge Competition.
” The whirlwind of activity resulting from the win prompted the singer/rapper to release the first mixtape from her Roses N’ Guns series. The “Totally Bad Ass Mixtape That Rocks” quickly racked up thousands of downloads online. Soon Nikki Lynette’s fans formed a movement around her music and dubbed themselves Team Bad Ass. “We call ourselves Team Bad Ass because we’re not like everybody,” Lynette explains. “We do what we want. We don’t care what anybody thinks.” It is this same profound sense of individuality that has been the cornerstone of Nikki Lynette’s existence, earning her accolades from industry heavyweights from producer Rodney Jerkins to Raymond Roker of URB Magazine.

Following the success of her genre defying mixtape, Lynette dropped a second project, The Strong Survive EP. After the release, MTV, VH1, Showtime, Bravo, and more began featuring her self-produced tunes in popular tv shows on their networks. She was offered a licensing deal with Viacom Media Networks by the end of the year. Nikki Lynette soon became the voice of Hasbro’s Twister campaign, performing the theme song for both Twister and Twistermania on Xbox Kinect. Her most recent release, Roses N’ Guns 2: The BADDER ASSED mixtape that rocks has garnered significant press, including digital and print features for XXL, Bust, Complex, Vibe, Jet, and more, as well as bookings for events such as A3C Hip Hop Fest in Atlanta and CMJ in New York. After one of Lynette’s humorous blogs earned her recognition by Whoopi Goldberg and was featured on The View in Spring of 2012, Nikki Lynette was invited to join the Red Eye, Chicago’s premiere pop culture newspaper (an offshoot of The Chicago Tribune.) She contributes articles about her life, music career, and opinions.

Nikki Lynette has partnered with Matt Hennessy of VSOP Studios and is currently working on her 2nd EP entitled Respect My Disrespect. “Until now my sound has been all over the place, I’ve been having fun,” Lynette explains. “But now that I’ve locked in on my sound, I’m gonna go nuts with it.” In addition to her and Matt’s production, Nikki Lynette’s new music includes several tracks by Da Internz (producers of Rihanna’s hit song Cake and Big Sean’s hit Ass.) A release date for the project has not yet been set.
