Debbie Scott attended the University of North Dakota on a volleyball scholarship and graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree (majoring in Physical Education). Debbie is in her 50’s and continues to play volleyball at a competitive level against much younger woman which she attributes to strength training and exercising every day. Debbie is an avid soccer player and president of a new soccer league she started with 3 other women called Fossil Football League. Her 50+ soccer team won the gold medal at the World Masters Games in Italy in August of 2013. She plans on keeping herself and her girls fit to defend in 2017 in Auckland. Debbie is an AFLCA (Alberta Fitness Leader Certification Association) trainer and regularly facilitates courses in fitness theory and resistance training. Debbie’s training philosophy is simple – “Quality, not Quantity and intensity versus duration.” She is a firm believer in cross training. Her very popular SED program and her new innovative ET program were developed with this simple philosophy. Debbie truly believes that exercise is the fountain of youth and that we age prematurely due to lack of exercise.

Lena Hansen, RHN Holistic Nutritionist

Health and wellness are my passions! This journey has definitely been a progression which started with my first gym membership over 10 years ago. It took a while longer before I made the connection that what I ate strongly impacted the state of my mind, body and spirit. As my diet became cleaner, I began noticing a big difference – especially in my moods and skin complexion. I made changes at my own pace, and these healthy eating habits naturally evolved to be a part of my active lifestyle. In 2010 I completed the RHN (holistic nutrition) program through Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, with honours . Throughout this program I was able to take my personal nutrition and the nutrition of my family to the next level. My husband and I have 3 beautiful young girls (aged 13, 5 and 1 year). I am constantly challenged to come up with creative and interesting ways to sneak in some extra nutrition and to educate my family on the value of eating well. As a holistic nutritionist, I am committed and passionate about helping others take control of their health through use of good quality natural whole foods and supplements. Weight is not a good measure of health, rather a feeling of well-being physically and spiritually is what I like to strive for. Listen to the signals your body is sending, and discover how adopting healthy food habits helps your body function as it was designed to.

You will often see Todd training the weekend warrior type who wants to achieve a better level of strength and conditioning.

Tia, Certified Personal Fitness Trainer – MRC

I grew up in Wainwright, Alberta spending most of my time outdoors, camping and just being an energetic kid. I have always been an active person, playing any sport I could get my hands on. I played volleyball all through high school on the girls A-team, as well as on rec. teams thereafter. Sports, the outdoors and fitness have been my number one priority in my life, especially in keeping me sane!!! I enjoy baseball, tennis, biking, hiking, Frisbee and most of all I love running. Staying in shape was a challenge for me just out of high school. Somehow, somewhere during my busy young adult years, I managed to gain some unexpected weight. Growing up thin and naive, I thought this could never happen to me. Two years later I managed to lose the weight and return to a healthy size. Losing 40 pounds, I assure you, this was no easy task. I understand the frustration, the time, the patience and most importantly the reward of achieving your goal. Since then I have worked in three fitness facilities and am constantly looking for new ways to test my strengths. I have four simple words of advice for those seekers out there… DO. NOT. GIVE. UP!

Lori, Certified Personal Fitness Trainer – MRC

Lori has been active in sports and other physical pursuits for most of her life. At the age of 4 she began formal dance training and wasn’t much older than that when she began participating in organized sports of various types. At the age of 18 she signed up to a gym, began weight training, and fell in love with it and ever since then, both cardio and resistance training have been a big part of her life. She decided a few years ago to pursue her AFLCA group fitness instructor certification and followed that by the PFT certificate program at Mount Royal. Lori also recently became an NCCP-certified triathlon coach. She currently invests her fitness time in training for full and half marathons as well as triathlon. Working out and being active has kept Lori healthy, grounded and centered and her goal is to inspire and help others to achieve their physical best.

Robin Erskine

Philosophy on Exercise and Well-Being

In my experience everyone enters a gym for one of three reasons; vanity, mobility, or fatality. Meaning people want to look better and feel better. Some people want to improve their athletic performance or overcome an injury. And for some people if lifestyle changes don’t happen soon there might be very serious consequences. My goal is to get to the root of what is truly driving them so I can inspire them to go above and beyond what they thought was possible

The first obstacles in any journey are usually the hardest to overcome. Especially when applied to exercise; the first set, first workout, or even the first initial consultation can be daunting to someone who is new to training. While many of us are aware that exercise increases ones physical and mental well-being, we struggle with the start to a new workout regimen. Afraid of failing the task at hand or having a limited schedule which is very prominent in today’s world, causes us to create small excuses that build up and eventually put an end to someone’s everyday workout.

Growing up, I learned I was my biggest competition. Once you have given up on a situation there is no way anything positive can develop from it, which is why motivation is a key factor in exercise. A person’s attitude throughout an exercise program is the number one thing they can control and maintain on a day-to-day basis. This “conquer all” attitude can be the difference between a sub-par routine and an intense progressive program. This positive attitude can just as easily transform a sedentary individual into an active individual whose new found zest for a physically and spiritually sound lifestyle is the perfect backdrop for increased longevity.

The most important part of exercise is that it should be fun! Remember the greatest investment one can make is in oneself. Keep it fresh, keep it functional, and keep it fun!

Interests & Hobbies

I have a love for travel and trying new things. I have been fortunate enough to combine my passion for fitness with my passion for travel. I have worked at multiple universities and fitness centers around the world. Everywhere I went I would try new things such as Scuba diving or kite surfing. My love for competition and performance demanded physical excellence and sparked my interest in exercise science.

I love the way training hard makes you look and feel, but honestly the reason I train is because I know hard work now makes all the other activities easier later

Favorite quotes

“There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.”

“A setback is a setup for a comeback.”

“yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, that’s why they call it the present.”

Megan – Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology – Certified Personal Trainer

I started my passion for fitness and physical activity back in high school playing basketball, soccer, badminton, and any other sport I could. I then got involved in rock climbing, scuba diving and horseback riding.

From there I progressed to run half marathons, and in the process of training for a tough mudder, full marathon and triathlon. I love to help people reach their fitness goals and accomplish things they never thought was possible. There is no greater feeling or reward then helping someone change their life for the positive.
