The truly eclectic require and deserve more from music than just a one-lined nonsensical hook repeated ad nauseum, auto-tuned vocals, and songs devoid of substance.
If one was to look for quality music that differed from the aforementioned, look no further than Mykal Morrison.
Mykal Morrison is an artist based out of West Palm Beach, Florida. His sound is a pleasant departure from the effect laden, overly processed music that floods the airwaves. His first effort is the full length album titled "Elemental". A collection of songs that are remnant of a better time in music. A time when you could get an album, just push play, and let it ride.... the kind of quality that you’ve seldom seen from the mainstream music community for quite some time.
Though new to you this is a project many years in the making. A culmination of many tastes and disciplines acquired over a great period of time. His debut album titled "Elemental" is a stellar reflection of this fact. With musical influences as varied as Andrea Bocelli, Trent Reznor, Fiona Apple, Ray Lamontagne, Tool, Beethoven, Imogen Heap, and Boyz 2 Men, it is not hard to believe that the sound, genre, and even messages in his music differ on a song by song basis. The one constant that is prominent in Mykal's body of work though, is passion.
His organic yet innovative approach is a combination of reggae, island, and latin stylings, which all can be found in abundance in the melting pot that is South Florida. But by no means is he limited to them alone. As a firm believer that the days and mindset of “genre superiority” are over, one can expect to hear folk, alternative, punk, blues, country and rock from him in future releases. The sky is truly the limit for what this artist can do which is why if you haven’t heard him yet, you will… and then kick yourself for not having found him sooner.
