Mya Elaine grew up in central New York with her musical career beginning on piano at the early age of 5.
Her musical interest expanded as she learned trumpet, then taught herself the drum kit and guitar. She started writing music of her own in high school and continued throughout her career at Smith College, releasing her first album "Getting Deep in Roots", in 2003. Mya then performed at venues throughout Massachusetts and was featured on Smith TV in 2003. Her sophomore release, "About the Tide (2006)," gained attention when two songs were chosen for use in the PBS documentary series, RoadTrip Nation. Her most recent album, "Before I Get Gone" was released in March of 2008, and was recorded, mixed and produced by Mya, with only the use of her Apple computer and Garage Band. “Before I Get Gone" features Mya on acoustic and electric guitar, banjo, piano, trumpet, percussion and violin. It also features drummer Sean Martin, and Colin Lake on lap slide guitar. “Before I Get Gone” was then selected for review in an issue of West Coast Performer Magazine.

"Before I Get Gone" focuses loosely on the theme of change, and the trials and tribulations that come along with making changes. The title track, "Before I Get Gone" is an acknowledgment of the need for staying present during difficult transitions. Mya describes this album as being the documentation of her personal growth after moving from the east coast to the west coast. After spending five years in Portland OR, touring the west coast among other things, Mya returned to New England where she completed a graduate degree in school psychology and is now a practicing school psychologist in the valley. Although her focus has shifted away from music, she still performs throughout New England as often as she can. Mya also has a new album in the works that she hopes to release soon.

Mya's voice has been compared to Emmylou Harris and Beth Orton, and her music stylings have been compared to Ani DiFranco and Fleetwood Mac.

West Coast Performer Magazine-

"…she does succeed in capturing her spirit on this album. It's full of self-expression that is as humble as it is true. There is no doubt that Elaine is a talented songwriter- her title track, 'Before I Get Gone' is not easily forgotten thanks to catchy melodies and memorable lyrics."

- Dave Boodakian

"Mya Elaine's music is full of sharp-edged tenderness-- lyrically articulate, yet plainly personal, with an underlying rhythmic intensity that shifts like a heartbeat with each newly discovered emotion."

-Adam Sweeney, Singer/Songwriter
