Mike Hawker was Born in Toronto, Canada in 1960.
He grew up listening to the popular music of the day and eventually started played in a blues band during. After high school he discovered Charlie Parker, who was the greatest jazz improviser of all time and decided to really spend his time developing his jazz skills.



For ten years Mike taught himself how to play jazz and eventually about 1990 started teaching and performing professionally in the Toronto area. Mike has had the opportunity to play with a number of wonderful musicians including the saxophonist Bob Mover who in the 1990s was a great mentor to him, taught him a great deal.



Since that time Mike has been performing in clubs, in private performances, jazz festivals throughout Ontario and as well enjoying teaching regularly. Mike has always had a number of students and enjoys passing the information to younger people the joy of music.



Currently Mike is available for professional engagements of any kind as well as teaching and continuing to develop his abilities by honing his skills. He believes, "one never stops learning, even after thirty years I still practice every day".



Mike has had the honour of playing with some of the finest musicians in Canada including: Bob Brough, Shawn Nyquist and Bernie Senensky.



Mike looks forward to new and interesting projects in the future.
