My name is Mike Buscombe.
I am a Drummer, Actor and Singer and currently living in Hanoi, Vietnam. I have been playing Drums since I was about 5 years old when my brother Terry commenced teaching me.
Thanks to my wife Shauna for 35 years of support in pursuing mymusical / entertainment career.
I am very proud of my 2 sons, Kris and Ash who make up half ofthe band "Witchhats".
I was born in Melbourne and lived there until Iwas about 25, playing in various rock bands around Melbourne ,including "Lizard","Blue Tongue" and "Chance".
That was in the good old days when there were rock 'n' roll venues all overtown like The Mountain View Hotel, The Manhattan, The Whitehorse Inn (Suck morep--- as Thorpey used to scream at the audience there) and the Prospect Hill Hotel.
At 25 I moved overseas to Singapore. After spending 3 years there, managing an Australian Trading Company andworking as a Model, I returned once more to Melbourne and played in bands again until 1990 when I moved to Tasmania to purchase a hotel and restaurant.
After playing in Tasmanian Rock Bands "Cry Wolf" and"Faultline", a friend and great musician from California, Pat Tilley, introduced me to theBlues.
His band "Terraplane" had been around for many years and their drummer had moved to Victoria . I rehearsed for a couple of weeks with them and then joined the Band.
Terraplane released a CD "Don't Tell Me I'm Wrong", recorded andmixed in our own studio. We played as support for international bands visiting Tasmania. A highlightwas a week at the Hard Rock Hotel in Bali in September 2001. Even 911 and Ansett Airlines' demise (both happened whilst we were there) couldn't dampen the thrill of that week!
I have filled in in bands during my travels around the world, including Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, USA and in the Tokyo Cavern in Japan in the famous Beatles Tribute Band.
I pride myself in having a good ear and being able to fill in with any band. Itis years since I read charts and I don't even bother any more.
I moved back to Melbourne in July 2007 and joined the Blues Trio, Gerda Street Groove"with two great musos and even greater guys, Chris Calamatta and Barry Hemphill.Chris writes great Blues and Barry plays the upright Bass like no-one I haveheard in a long time.
In September 2008, I decided I wanted to play Rock 'n' Roll again and joined"The Sociables" These guys were an amazing bunch of professional musicians and really nice blokes. We were playing a genuine array of 60's, 70'sand 80's covers that received great reviews and we worked around the place for 2 years. In September 2010 the band reached a stage as bands often do. It had run its course in its existing format and we all parted ways. After a break, Paul Comer (Sociables) and I decided to form a new Blues Band. After a great number of auditions, starts and restarts, we formed "The Cuban Heelers". A great musician from the UK, Lee Slater, is an amazing Lead Guitarist and local Terry Hogan a fantastic Blues Singer and Harp player. We began gigging in late 2012. We placed our own stamp on songs from the likes of Robert Johnson, Eric Clapton, ZZ Top, Cream, Robben Ford, Mother Earth etc. There are sample songs on this site from my days with Terraplane, The Sociables and The Cuban Heelers. There are also videos of The Cuban Heelers. In October 2013, my wife accepted a position as Senior Student Counselor at RMIT International University in Hanoi, Vietnam so we moved here. I am playing in a band with a great bunch of expats in Hanoi. Jez Hartley on Lead Guitar, Simon Redington on Guitar and Vocals, Renier Kershoff on Vocals and Chris Ludaescher on Bass.
