Mihkel Mälgand is one of the leading bass players in jazz music scene of Estonia.
He started playing regularly already since age 9 in a fusion-rock group Bio-Est-Rock. Stylistically versatile and highly skilled musician, he has today despite of his young age recorded over 70 albums and has collaborated with the majority of estonian jazz musicians and played in a big number of international projects, for example with Kurt Elling, Randy Brecker, David Liebman, Tim Hagans, Frank Foster, Dennis Rowland, Dean Brown, Eric Marienthal, Paul Bollenback, Ulf Wakenius, Deborah Brown, Karlheinz Miklin, Tim Miller, Nick Ali and many others. He has graduated Georg Ots Tallinn Music School, both in classical and jazz specialty and owns a master degree of jazz music from Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. He is at the moment active in bands like Estonain Dream Big Band, Kadri Voorand Group, Oleg Pissarenko Band, Raivo Tafenau Group, Agan-Viinikainen-Kallio-Mälgand, Vindpower, Sven Grünberg Group...
