Have Mercy was an early thrash metal band based in Baltimore, MD, whose career mirrored that of many other promising outfits that would ultimately fail to leave their mark on the public at large.
Formed in 1983, the group's demos did the rounds of the all-important tape-trading underground; their song "The Omen" was chosen for inclusion on a Metal Massacre compilation (volume seven, to be exact); and a debut EP entitled Armageddon Descends was released by Combat Records in 1985. But Have Mercy's then lineup of Lonnie Fletcher (vocals), John Brenner (guitar), Nick Ellingson (guitar), Rob Michael (bass), and John Knoerlein (drums) was as short-lived as those that preceded and followed it, and after suffering a serious van crash in 1987, the band gradually ground to a halt. Their popular demos outlived them, though, and were eventually compiled into 2005's The Years of Mercy collection to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Have Mercy's only official release. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
