LeRoy Dunbar IV, (born February 6, 1972), also known as LD4, is an independent American hip hop/alternative recording artist.
He was born in Augusta, Georgia to Orlando Cannon, a paralegal and teacher, and LeRoy Dunbar III, a retired member of the United States Army and a cotton mill worker. He lived in Augusta where he graduated from AR Johnson High School in 1990. He attended Paine College and graduated in 1994 with a degree in English. While at Paine, he won first place in the Rap category at Foxie 103’s First Annual Citywide Talent Show in 1991. He had also been involved with several groups; but due to members amiably moving in different directions, he ended up continuing music on his own.

After graduating, he started working in IT to learn the aspects of hardware and software integration. He performed in various shows over the course of six (6) years and released an independent single “Translate” in 2000. Due to his strong commitment to family life, he continued to work in IT until finally completing his project PastPresentFutureNow on Reverbnation.com in 2016, featuring the singles “Movin (Like It Like That)” and “Song For The Children.” The project was written, arranged, composed, produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by LD4.

He reveals that his influences range from James Brown and Michael Jackson to Tears For Fears and Zero7. “If it’s good, I listen to it,” says LD4. “My mother listened to Soul and Country, where my father was an R&B and Blues man. I grew up in the 70s, 80s, and 90s where I heard everything from Earth, Wind, and Fire, Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie, Ambrosia, Queen, David Bowie, and Credence Clearwater Revival to the Sugar Hill Gang, Spandau Ballet, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, Ronnie Milsap, and Eddie Rabbit. Believe me, the list is way bigger than that. I am glad that I got my musical education from all walks.” Describing his music, LD4 states that inspiration comes from random precision. “I always want to make something for longevity, but the creative process just comes to me. I want anyone to be able to relate. That’s why the classics are still played; no matter the time period, they touch somebody in some way. I always wanna kick somethin' that means somethin' (shout out to The Pharcyde).”

LD4 states, “I have had people in various times of my life along the way in my life ask me why has it taken so long for me to finally drop something. Between taking advice that sometimes is not good for you, real-world responsibilities, and several series of random events, delays can happen. Now I am in a place where it is time now.” Songs from the PastPresentFutureNow project can be found at www.reverbnation.com/ld43.
