Irish expatriate singer/songwriter and playwright Larry Kirwan is best known as the leader of the band Black 47, formed in 1989, which plays Celtic-tinged folk-rock and has recorded for several labels, including SBK, Mercury, Shanachie, and Gadfly.
Kirwan has also written a series of plays that have been produced in the U.S. and Europe, five of which were published in the book Mad Angels (1993). In 1998, he released his first solo album, the children's collection Keltic Kids. Kilroy Was Here, released in 2001, was his first solo album for adults. ~ William Ruhlmann
