Lake Heartbeat is primarily a vehicle for the solo songwriting efforts of Jan "Janne" Kask, formerly of the Swedish pop group Brainpool.
Lake Heartbeat isn't Kask's first stab at building a solo career. He released his first single, Summer Is Here, in 1998, one year after parting ways with Brainpool, and his debut album, Wrestling My Case, came out the following year. Kask enjoyed a moderate amount of success in Sweden with the album's lead single, "Golden Heart." In the years that followed, Kask more or less settled down -- he had a kid, and began studying medicine at Uppsala University. Collaborating with the likes of Kallå Kåks and producer Dan Lissvik (Studio), Kask released his first album under the name Lake Heartbeat, Trust in Numbers -- a sleek, shimmery dance-pop affair that nodded to Rubies and Cut Copy -- on Service in 2009. ~ Margaret Reges
