Kourtney Heart, a contemporary R&B vocalist and songwriter from New Orleans, Louisiana, caught a break at the age of 13, when she entered a lookalike talent contest as Beyoncé.
The competition's DJ was Raj Smoove, a producer who worked with the likes of Mannie Fresh and Lil Wayne. Before she completed high school, Heart had a local hit, "My Boy," featuring Magnolia Shorty, as well as a recording deal with Jive. However, before she was able to issue her debut album, which was planned to hit in 2010, a label shake-up prompted her to seek release from her contract. She remained with Smoove as her manager, however, and continued her progression as an independent artist. Her first album, Eye Dee Kay, was eventually issued, and she quickly followed that debut with A Gemini's Diary and Are & Be, assured and mature sets that belied her age. ~ Andy Kellman
