Entrepreneur Kevin Plank is most well-known as the founder of Under Armour, and he currently serves as the company’s Chief Executive
Officer and Chairman. This self-made billionaire has several other notable professional achievements. In addition, he has made important contributions to the community over the years through his substantial philanthropic efforts.

After graduating from high school, Kevin Plank enrolled in the Fort Union Military Academy. After attending classes and playing on the school’s football team for a year, he relocated to the University of Maryland. There, he earned a spot on the school’s football team and continued to play while earning a business degree. As a student, he launched his first business. This seasonal business, known as Cupid’s Valentine, sold roses to staff members and students. In addition to providing him with professional experience, the business generated a profit that Plank later used as seed money for Under

Armour.

The concept for Under Armour was developed through Plank’s personal experience while playing college football. He wanted to sell apparel that was

more comfortable for athletes to wear while working out and sweating. After developing a quality product, Kevin Plank used several tactics to raise

awareness and generate sales. He sold his products out of his trunk and to his former teammates. He managed to raise enough money to run an

advertisement in ESPN’s magazine, which proved to be a turning point in the company’s history. Through this ad, Under Armour enjoyed more than $1

million in sales. Currently, the company's revenue exceeds $5 billion annually, and it has more than 15,000 employees worldwide.

While Kevin Plank focused attention on Under Armour’s rapid growth, he bought Sagamore Farm in 2007. This is a working horse farm spanning across 530 acres. Through the farm, Plank stables, owns and trains dozens of horses. One of these horses won the Breeder’s Cup in 2010.

He also founded Plank Industries in 2013. Through this real estate development firm, he renovated Sagamore Pendry Hotel and Recreation Pier. He also designed and developed a mixed-use project worth more than $5.5 billion in Port Covington. Through Plank Industries, he opened Sagamore Spirit, which is a private whiskey distillery.

Since Kevin Plank graduated from college, he has passionately given to others in numerous ways. In 1999, he personally funded the design of a

customized wheelchair for his former college roommate. His roommate became quadriplegic after a serious sporting accident. Plank has also given

countless hours and tens of millions of dollars supporting various projects and organizations. These include the Archdiocese of Baltimore, St. John’s High School, the USA House, the Cole Field House project, The Dingman Center’s endowment fund and College Bound.

Kevin Plank has received numerous honors for his accomplishments over the years. These include awards from the Small Business Administration, Men’s

Fitness, Fast Company, Success Magazine, Forbes, Fortune, Adweek, Sporting News and others. He is also an inductee to the Sporting Goods Industry’s Hall of Fame.
