Born in Scotland on August 21, 1974, pop/country singer and songwriter Johnny Reid came to call Canada home from the age of 13, and there established himself as a prominent up-and-comer in the genre within just a few years of turning pro.
His sound, a mélange of North American country & western and traditional Celtic instrumentation, melded well on his debut, Born to Roll, which became a Top 20 hit and earned Reid a number of award nominations, resulting in three wins -- including Single of the Year and Rising Star of the Year -- at the 2006 Canadian Country Music Awards. One year later, he released his second album, Kicking Stones, which earned him another nomination at that year's Juno Awards ceremony. The accolades continued with Reid's two subsequent albums, 2009's Dance with Me and 2010's A Place Called Love, both of which went double platinum in Canada. In 2011, the Manhattan Records label compiled the best tracks from his first three albums and released Introducing Johnny Reid, a set designed for the U.S. market. Reid's seventh album, the radio-ready Fire It Up, appeared in 2012. ~ Chris True
