Jawhar grew up in the southern suburbs of Tunis. At the age of 20 he leaves for France tostudy English literature and theatre. Subsequently he writes his first songs and plays his first concerts. For the last couple of years he has been travelling between Belgium and the Tunisian capital, where he is committed notonly as a musician, actor and playwright, but also as a citizen artist. A firstrather controversial play about love and sex in the arab world (Hobb Story byLotfi Achour) found him tackling his mother tongue to reinvent the Tunisianlove song. Ever since, he’s kept on digging those grooves that lead to theroots.

Entre chansons arabes empreintes de chaâbi et mélopées aériennes à la Nick Drake, Jawhar invente un style folk-soul bien à lui. Après « when rainbows call, my rainbows fly », salué par la presse comme un « soufflant premier album d’un prodige du song-writing» (les Inrockuptibles), Jawhar réinvestit sa terre natale et sa langue maternelle pour les faire chanter autrement...

"Le Baiser etl'Orientation de la Prière" est une traduction possible pour "QiblaWa Qobla".

Jawhar grandit dans la banlieue sud de Tunis. Il part à 20 ans étudier en France et c'est là qu'il écrit ses premières chansons et qu'il commence à se produire en solo. Depuis quelques années il vit entre la campagne belge et la capitale tunisienne où il s’engage en tant que musicien, dramaturge et comédien. Une première création sulfureuse autour de l’amour et du sexe dans le monde arabe (Hobb Story de Lotfi Achour) le voit renouer avec sa langue maternelle et réinventer la chanson d’amour tunisienne. Depuis, avec une douce amertume qui lui est propre, il ne cesse de creuser dans ses chansons ces sillons qui mènent aux racines.

بين أغان عربية ذات طابع "شعبي" و أهازيج “فولك سول” محلِّقة ابتدع جوهر أسلوباخاصا به. فبعد ألبومه الأول التي حيّته الصحافة كعمل أول مبهرلنابغة من نوابغ الأغنية الحديثة استأنف جوهر علاقته بالجذور في أرضه و لغتها فجعلهما يشدوان بأسلوب جديد و مبتكر.

المسيرة الذاتية

ولد جوهر في بئة ثقافية فنية من أم تدرّس الأدب العربي ومولعة بالموسيقى والشعر وأب رجل مسرح وهب حياته للشأن الثقافي, ونشأ في احدى أحوازتونس الشعبية, ضاحية رادس, فكان في طريقه إلى المدرسة يتلقى ثقافة شعبية, ثقافةالشارع، فسحرته لغتها و تعابيرها وأغانيها وألوانها وحركاتها التي يعتبرها البعضسوقية... إلا أنه عند سفره إلى فرنسا في سنّ العشرين لمواصلة دراسة الإنڤليزية والمسرح وجد نفسه منجذبا للشعر التجريدي بصفةعامة,اضافة إلى غرام متنام يوما فيوم ل’’نيكدرايك’’ الذي جلبه بصفة لا رجعة فيها لذلك ال"فولك" الإنطباعي.

يعيش جوهر من بضع سنوات بين ريف بلجيكا والعاصمةالتونسية حيث يكرس نفسه الى فكرة ما للفن الملتزم من خلال أعمالموسيقية و تمثيل و كتابة مسرحية. فمسرحية"حب ستوري" للطفي عاشور المثيرة للجدل لتناولها موضوع الحب والجنس فيالعالم العربي جعلته يستأنف علاقته بلغته فيجدد النفس الإبداعي للأغنية العاطفيةالتونسية.
