With a sound that touches on metal, dance-pop, and glitched-out electronics, I Set My Friends on Fire are like a tornado of musical influences and genres.
Formed in 2007 by Matt Mehana and Nabil Moo, the Miami, Florida group found an audience quickly with their cover of Soulja Boy’s “Crank That,” introducing the world at large to their chopped-up sound. The following year, the pair released the I Set My Friends on Fire EP, which eventually led to a deal with indie giant Epitaph for their debut full-length, You Can’t Spell Slaughter Without Laughter. In 2009, the band picked up drummer Chris Lent, who would eventually replace Moo on synthesizer and programming duties following his departure the following year. Later in 2010, the pair hit the studio with former From First to Last member Travis Richter, and in 2011 released their sophomore album, Astral Rejection. ~ Gregory Heaney
