At the beginning, the band used to play at small venues, participating in educational programs, anti-drugs campaigns, and charitable events. In 1995, Grupo Alamo was nominated for Best Band of the Year by Pura Vida. Two years later they were nominated for Best Drummer Edward Mendoza and Best Bass Player Danny Rodríguez, who were playing along with keyboardist José Lara, guitarist Ernest González, singer Roger García, and accordionist Ernie González, at the Tejano Music Awards.
