Go Robot, Go! formulates spirited indie rock with a robotic twist.
The bandmembers use technical pseudonyms -- DC v.79 (bassist Dave Cribbs), JL Mod 12 (guitarist Josh Lowe), Nealbot (vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Neal Havener), and Drummer Unit JS2112 (Jim Swanson) -- and emulate computerized sounds with vocoders and synthesizers. It's also not uncommon for the band to use props such as monitors and 16mm projectors for performances. The quartet first released a self-titled album under the name Shinola, changing the band name to Go Robot, Go! in 1997. Convertible, an effects-tinged record of lighthearted rock, was released in July 1999. An EP, Supervacation followed in summer 2000 and leans toward carefree, '60s-styled pop. Wait Three Days...Then Attack followed in early 2001. ~ Kenyon Hopkin
