The core members of the Little Rock, AR, band Go Fast joined together in the late '90s.
Scott Diffie on lead guitar and vocals, Matt Floyd on bass, and Trey Baker on drums quickly gained a local following. The band was ready to go to the next level when they added guitarist Kevin Kerby, who was pulling double duty as the leader of his own band, Mulehead. After exposure on an Arkansas rock radio station, the band landed a gig as the opening act for Lynryd Skynyrd. This exposure led to their signing with HTS Recordings. Their debut, Great American Get Down, was recorded over one weekend in October 1999, and released the following year. Famed artist Ed "Big Daddy" Roth was commissioned to paint the cover.

Kevin Kerby soon departed from the band to concentrate on Mulehead, and was replaced by Shannon Yarbrough. Yarbrough left the group soon after joining, prompting the original members to remain as trio. The band continued touring regionally and began work on their follow-up release in 2001. ~ Michael Cusanelli
