Freedom Jazz Movement [FJM] is lead by Artist Percussionist Marcus L. Miller.
He formed the group in 1998 as a vehicle of artistic expression. The group has released five albums for the Universe Soul Records label.

The core component of the group is the trio of Miller, dancer/choreographer Tamica Washington-Miller, and poet Jennifer Bowens. These three elements embody the conceptual meaning of Freedom Jazz Movement…Freedom of expression through music, movement, and spoken word.

Freedom Jazz Movement has been a part of the artist roster for the Segerstrom Center for the Arts since 2006. Through the Center, they have performed live jazz in Southern California schools and public spaces.

The group has performed through out California and on the East Coast. In 2006 they opened for Chris Botti at the Carolina Theatre in Durham. The group has also headlined at Grand Performances California Plaza (2009 & 2010), the California African American Museum (2007), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art(1998), Bank Street College in Manhattan, NY (2006), the African Marketplace festival in Los Angeles (2006 & 2008), and at various local clubs throughout Los Angeles.
